This is the week of the Partner Hopper Challenge!
What exactly is a “Hopper Challenge”?
Well… there is this document that the founder of CrossFit, Greg Glassman, wrote years ago (2000ish) which heavily inspired me to take up CrossFit myself. In it he established 3 standards of fitness. The second standard reads like this:
The essence of this model is the view that fitness is about performing well at any and every task imaginable. Picture a hopper loaded with an infinite number of physical challenges where no selective mechanism is operative, and being asked to perform feats randomly drawn from the hopper. This model suggests that your fitness can be measured by your capacity to perform well at these tasks in relation to other individuals.
So, twice per year… once for individuals and now a second time for partners… we load up the “hopper” with a bunch of variables and make a workout from it. (FYI… we don’t put “all” the variables in our hopper, because we want it to be a workout accessible by all of our foundation athletes).
The individual workout this year came out as a nasty CrossFit couplet of burpees (lots of burpees!) and rowing. The partner workout will be announced Saturday. Let me just say that it is… different.
So, what we want you to do for this event is come to Saturday’s class with a partner. Teams will be finalized by Coach Jay. Let your trainer know if you have any questions this week.
This week, in order to peak for the Partner Hopper Challenge, and because I brutalized your legs last week, we will be deloading. Bring intensity to your sessions, but generally you will find that there is less work to do. It’s a great opportunity to spend some time with the roller or stretching after your sessions… Or enjoy the opportunity to get home a little earlier and cook up something yummy.
Monday:
Foundation – Shoulder Prep + Pressing & Chins + Abs
Building – Snatch + Pressing & Chins + Abs
Tuesday:
Everyone – Deadlift + Front Squat/Row Whiteboard workout
Wednesday:
Foundation – AMRAP (swing, bike, skip)
Building – Go for a skate on the river trail
Thursday:
Foundation – Try out some cross-country skiing
Building – C&J + DB Bench & Pendlays + Bike sprints
Friday:
Everyone – TGU + FS + Abzzzzzzz
Saturday:
Everyone – The Partner Hopper!
