Putting it mildly, the past 2 months have been a blur. It has been an exciting ride that I hope is just beginning and will continue for many years to come, however, I’d prefer it to be a little less of an emotional roller coaster if that’s possible. Before I say anything else I need to say this:
None of this would have been possible without the dedication and determination of my father.
That statement doesn’t do the amount of work he put into this building any justice. I mean it, we wouldn’t be running classes if it weren’t for him. I can’t describe how motivating it is to have someone believe in you so strongly. It is the very least I can do to put everything I have into making Sublime Strength and Conditioning, a powerhouse, a breeding ground for excellence. In a gym environment we talk about strength and toughness basically every day, mostly in a physical sense. My father is a physically strong man, but I have never met a anyone with more mental toughness. I’m proud to say I’ve inherited his mental strength and toughness, and his determination to never quit what you started.
So, if you are in the gym one day and you see a stern looking man with a thick red mane on top of his head, take a second and say thank you. But, make sure you give him a firm handshake and look him in the eye….he can smell weakness. I’m kidding, he’s harmless, like one of those massive dogs you’re afraid to approach but the owner insists, “he won’t bite.” I’m getting off track here. What I’m trying to say, in a very long winded way is, ‘thank you dad.’
With all that being said, this gym was truly a community effort. With the help of friends and family and construction crews working around the clock (even during the holidays) we were able to turn an old welding shop into the kick ass gym you see before you. You know who you are, you all stepped up and put many hard hours into helping us move towards our dream. For all of those who helped us, a very deep and sincere, ‘thank you.’
On the topic of community, we also need to thank the local CrossFit community. Mike Warkentin and his band of pirates over at CrossFit 204 (www.crossfit204.com) adopted Coach Brad while our place was under construction. Matt Winchar, the leader of Undefeated CrossFit (www.undefeatedcrossfit.com), was extremely helpful with pointing us in the direction of suppliers or just anyone that could help us get started. Brad Gerbrandt, Derek Wickham and the Prairie CrossFit (www.prairiecrossfit.com) crew were kind enough to let myself and Coach Brendan train in their great new facility. If you live in the vicinity of any of these gyms, check them out!
The hard road to getting the gym open is in the rear-view, and now our eyes have shifted to establishing ourselves in the fitness community. That starts and ends within our four walls, it is completely in our control. We do not respond to our environment, we define it, we create it. This movement was greeted with more resistance than many are aware of. But, unbeknownst to the road blocks, every time we encountered this resistance, the friction sparked another flame within. I’m so fired up at this point I could melt a barbell. I have motivation coming out of my pores. This passion will spread to our members and will not be extinguished. Sublime Strength and Conditioning has arrived.
See You In the Gym.
Kyle Wilzer.
