Pops Collar, Double Pistols

Well, our testing week has wrapped up. Watching the PR board fill up, and members fire off double pistols day in and day out, has me very excited. I am a pretty balanced guy when it comes to my emotions, and it takes some substantial news to get me excited. Something along the lines of a Rage Against The Machine reunion tour, or a phone call from Eva Mendes. The excitement from the PR board ranks third, just slightly below that phone call I am waiting on. Yes I love Rage Against The Machine that much.

It is rather easy for me to get motivated for my own workouts after coaching this group we have. It’s tough watching our members put in work, sweat through nasty Met Cons and throw around heavy barbells, because all I want to do is join in. I am inspired by all of you. I’m looking at Luke front squat 300lbs for 2!!! 2 Reps!!! The crazy part is we have guys that are close behind that… Tim, Jeff, Mark(big nasty), Kevin, Andy, Troy, Gail, and Rob are all putting up 2 rep front squats in the 255-285lb range. We’ve only just begun implementing back squats into our program, needless to say I am excited (did I mention I am excited?) to see where those numbers progress to. A lot of the guys mentioned above put up those numbers or heavier for 5RM back squat. I’m not even going to get into the deadlift(Gail did 345 for 5!!!) or push press numbers(Jeff with a solid 205), or this would turn into an essay.

.
The ladies…. Ohhhhh the ladies of Sublime. You’ve probably heard someone say, ‘that’s pretty heavy weight for a girl.’ Well, you use that kind of talk in our home and you will likely get your ass kicked. I watched Nic deadlift 295lbs…TWICE! Nicole S did that weight for a 1RM, crushing her previous by 40lbs. Irene put 175lbs on her back for 5 reps and a 275lb deadlift. Erika, Caitlin, Leslie, Emily, Amanda, and Shenan hitting deadlifts of 200lbs and up! Leslie with an impressive 245lbs. Marlo, Claudia, Meagan, Mel C, Brittany, Rose, Gabby and Tara all making huge improvements as they close in on a 200lb deadlift. Cristy comes in and chucks barbells around like they owe her money, sporting a 135lb clean and jerk and a 155lb bench press. Regan putting up a 200lbs back squat and also a 135lb clean. A group of ladies that truly float like butterflies but sting like bees.

.
It is so easy to just focus on the big numbers put up on the board, but, I am equally excited about those who have come so far in terms of proper movement. I look at Antony, when he started it was nearly impossible for him to get into a proper and safe front rack position. We worked with goblet squats, and mobility work. I say ‘we’ but the credit goes to him, he stuck with it. He worked so hard, he was patient and understood that proper movement patterns trumped loading up a heavy barbell. After all his hard work and persistence I watched him beautifully squat 200lbs. Same goes for Shenan, Lexi, Scott M, Joanna, Reigh, Tara, JT, and Michelle. They are all examples of people who show patience and dedication to proper movement, and understand that there is a time and place to add intensity. It can be frustrating watching others do the ‘cool’ movements. But I would much rather have a frustrated client than an injured one.

.
This was supposed to be a short little blurb, but did I mention how excited I am? You are all a pleasure to coach and I couldn’t ask for a better group of athletes.

.
Lets keep the double pistols firing.

Kyle.

OMG Kyle…you are hilarious!! Please write us an essay as you make me laugh OUT LOUD!

It is so very “exciting” to see our box and members grow and evolve…the smiles that come with the sense of strength and accomplishment are super cool! I don’t get a chance to chat with everyone as I’m often in my own little world but I do want to say how great it is to see all of this happening. YOU GUYS & GALS ROCK!! And with all this new found strength I know that you all could pull, push, carry or squat me out of a house fire if you needed to…I feel safe. LOL..

And a huge THANKS to our amazing coaching staff (that includes you to Gail) for making it all happen.  We are very fortunate to have Sublime, our community and all the profesionalism…knowledge and coaching experience that comes with it.

    THNX!
    Tapout.

Those are some amazing numbers being thrown up on that board.  I’m glad these are being acknowledged.   It seems like every day I walk through the doors and I see members accomplishing something they’ve never done before.

I’m very excited to see that progress on a day to day basis and it makes it very easy for me to try my best in order to keep up with the rest of you strong folk to and to make sure we get you to your goals.

In the 5 months of Sublime being open I’ve seen members who were initially hesitant to squat below parallel and progressing to be able to demonstrate continually improving form on their  front squats, back squats, cleans and snatches.  I can’t wait to see the growth and evolution of these same athletes in the coming months….

It’s all about mechanics, consistency and adding that element of intensity.  Keep up the great work everyone.

Kyle, your awesome.  Your enthusiasm and dedication to the members is a big part of what makes Sublime so awesome.  The success of the members is a tribute to the amazing dedication and knowledge of the coaches.  And believe me – we are very excited about our coaches.  And very excited when our coaches are excited.  Did I mention how excited the members are about Sublime?!  There are a lot of smiling PR/first pull up/first muscle up faces at Sublime – even at 6 in the morning 😉

I now see what kind of competition we’re up against though.  We might have to kick it up a notch to keep you excited to come to work at 6am.
